It’s always exciting when new DJ software makes its debut. I get all giddy thinking about the new features and the hours I’ll spend messing around with all the new bells & whistles. The first thing that pops into my head is how I can incorporate things I didn’t even know I needed into my music and my sets.
Virtual DJ 7.4 + Skins, Plugins, Effects & Samples VirtualDJ is the hottest AUDIO and VIDEO mixing software, targeting DJs from the bedroom, mobile, and professional superstars like Carl Cox. With VirtualDJ’s breakthrough BeatLock engine, songs will always stay in beat, and the DJ works their mixes incredibly faster than they ever could. Once the file is located, double-click the file to add it into the disc 1 section of Virtual DJ. Follow step 3 and step 4 one more time to add another track to the disc 2 section. Once the tracks are added, use the different features available in the Virtual DJ application to adjust the sound effects that you want to add into the audio files.
So when Virtual DJ 8 finally made its debut into the physical world at the DJ expo in AC (that’s Atlantic City for you regular folks), my heart went all a-flutter in anticipation. Of course I’ve heard the rumors of both large and small additions so now I’ll pass on what I know about VDJ8 to you.
The More Things Change
One of the first things you’ll notice with the new version of Virtual DJ is that it is spruced up version of the Virtual DJ we already know and love. Atomix has fixed those little quirks and glitches that have DJs pulling out their hair in frustration, while keeping the same basic interface to make easy to navigate.
There’s more power and a cleaner skin, but you don’t have to feel as though you’re re-learning the software when it’s time for an upgrade.
So what can we expect with the new and improved Virtual DJ 8?
Major Changes
Sandbox is where we should start since it’s generating the most buzz at this point. The simple description is that this new feature allows DJs to find the entry and exit point to cue the next song. This means you can be in sandbox mode while your current track is playing for the audience, meanwhile in your headphones you can rewind and fast forward the current and next song to figure the best place to enter and exit for the best sounding mix.
This is a great feature for nervous DJs who need to make sure they’ve got it all perfect in the moment.
Timeline Remix Engine lets the DJ position up to 99 songs as a colorized waveform on a timeline to auto-key or pitch match them, not to mention edit songs. This new feature on Virtual DJ allows DJs to slice up songs and extend breaks while controlling EQ, pitches and keys so you can program your set ahead of time just as you want it.
Advanced Options are now available in the settings so you don’t have to follow the path to the Land of Oz—also known as altering the registry—just to alter the section of the sound spectrum affected by your mix. These advanced configuration options can be saved in a solitary file (XML) for use in another copy of virtual DJ.
Rewritten Sound Engine means there is a noticeable improvement in the sound quality. When a track surges toward those higher end frequencies the sound is no longer distorted or fuzzy.
Effects have been added so we can finally talk about Virtual DJ effects without a longing sigh and frustrated eye roll. Additionally you can effectively pull the effects away from the software and into a new window so you can position it as you need it, such as putting the most used effects as larger windows for easier accessibility. Dock the effects or make them their own windows so you can get to them when you need them.
Simpler Samples are possible thanks to the options to edit samples in a separate window. Virtual DJ 8 also makes sampling easier with croppable waveforms, key matched, auto-synced and pitched. Samples may be grouped together so a similarly grouped sample will force stop the current sample and the newer one will take over at the same point so you can chop and mix in time.
Best of all? The samples can be identified using images so you don’t have to bend over and squint to identify them.
How To Add New Sampler In Virtual Dj Mixer
Audio & Video Mapping makes it easy to save customized mappings for audio or video use. This is perfect for those DJs who have begun video DJing or those who simply want to add a visual element to their performances. The midi mapping screen comes with intuitive Midi learn and auto complete so the entire process is simple even for a new DJ.
Where Is It?
It seems as though the DJ world has been holding its collective breath for years, and while it has been incredibly long it hasn’t been quite that long, but it is still not upon us…yet. Even though those who attended the DJ Expo got an up close and personal look at Virtual DJ 8, the rest of us will still have to wait to get our hands on it.
Not all software upgrades are worth the wait, but from what the folks at Atomix are saying about Virtual DJ 8 it will be as amazing as it sounds.
